Relax & Unwind in Our Cosy Bar Area

The ‘Hydro Bar’ at the Inn on the Moor Hotel features an impressive and imposing 20ft long, solid oak bar that was handcrafted by local carpenter and sheep farmer, Paul Metcalfe. Without a doubt the centre of attention, there isn’t a local pub for miles that boasts a bar with a wow factor like ours. The Hydro bar takes its name from the Hotel, previously known as ‘The Hydro’ until the 1980s when it was renamed as the Inn on the Moor. ‘The Hydro’ was famous for its eco-friendly methods of pumping water from the nearby mill at Goathland Railway Station. You can see one of the remaining brass plaques denoting the Hydro in the Hotel Bar. We are pleased to provide wheelchair access to the Hydro Bar as well as our Hotel Lounge and Dining Facilities.

The Hydro Bar is open daily from 11am and serves a wide array of real ales, lagers and ciders as well as carefully selected wines and the largest selection of ‘Yorkshire Gins’ in Goathland. We also value the importance of providing choice to our customers who require something a little softer which is why we have developed our own ‘Drive-Inn’ Drinks Menu.

Our team will greet you with the very warmest of welcomes the moment you step foot through the door. Enjoy Grannies’ home-baking with a hot drink as you sit in front of the roaring log fire and catch up with friends or relax and unwind in the garden with the perfect pint of real ale.

Become friends with the locals whilst you share tales of adventure from your days’ walk over the heather covered moorland or through our enchanted wooded valleys. You might be able to guess that we welcome everyone at the Inn on the Moor including walkers, runners, cyclists and families with children. We cannot forget to mention that Dogs are also well loved with water bowls, towels for muddy paws and treats all available.

Our hotel lounge also offers comfortable seating and relaxation to residents and non-residents alike. In the winter months, our open fire crackles away adding to the ambience ensuring that you have the most leisurely of experiences. Whether you are enjoying after dinner drinks or a good natter and catch up with a friend over coffee – the hotel lounge is perfect for you. We even offer our own branded coffee - its name derived from an old family tale – why not ask us about the ‘Ferret that Ran’?

A family story of ‘The Ferret that Ran’

“In the early 1900’s Great Great Grandad William travelled from Masham on a horse and cart with his wife and children Max, Willis and Nora. Resting for a moment at Sutton Bank in Thirsk, their pet ferret escaped. Continuing their adventures on their own they settled in Bransdale where Great Grandad Max turned his hand to Rabbit Catching as a way to make his wage, finally affording to buy sheep of his own. After moving to Greenlands in Goathland many years later, our Grandad Jim was born. The farming lifestyle continued as it does to this day.``

We have one question though, where did that ferret get to?
